The expert's authority and competence

When assessing whether an examination can be entrusted to an expert, relevant factors include that expert's specialist knowledge, education, qualifications, experience, technical capability and whether the questions fall within their competence.

What confirms the feasibility of an examination

Education

Relevant training in commodity science and quality examination of consumer goods.

Practice

Experience examining goods and analysing documents, defects, commercial condition and value.

Technical capability

Inspection, measurements, photographic records, work with regulatory documentation and arrangement of the laboratory component where necessary.

Education and qualifications

  • higher education in 38.04.07 “Commodity Science”, specialisation in “Identification and Commodity Examination”, qualification — Master's degree;
  • secondary vocational education in 38.02.05 “Commodity Science and Quality Examination of Consumer Goods”, qualification — commodity expert;
  • additional training in related fields, applicable within the scope of the specific task.

Documents on education, qualifications, professional memberships and liability insurance may be provided to the court or client on request.

Specialist opinion and expert report

Specialist opinion

Prepared at the request of a client or party. A separate procedural appointment of the examination is not required.

Expert report

Prepared after an examination is appointed by a court or another competent body and within the scope of the questions asked.

Limits of competence

A commodity examination must not replace a legal assessment, sanitary-epidemiological examination, veterinary examination, microbiological tests or chemical-toxicological tests. Where a question spans fields, the need for a multidisciplinary examination is determined.
