Multidisciplinary examination of food products
When a question cannot be answered with justification through inspection, documents and commodity examination methods alone, the examination may include a separate laboratory component or one from a related field.
When a multidisciplinary format is needed
- there are signs of spoilage, but specialist tests are required to confirm the nature of the changes;
- the dispute concerns both commercial condition and composition or safety parameters;
- storage conditions need to be compared with laboratory examination results;
- the object requires the knowledge of a commodity expert and a specialist from another field.
How tasks are allocated
Commodity examination component
Identification, commercial condition, packaging, labelling, documents, handling conditions, value and other questions within commodity science.
Specialist laboratory / specialist
Tests and conclusions concerning parameters that require specialist methods, equipment and relevant competence.
Result
The result format is determined by the task and procedural circumstances: a specialist opinion, an expert report or a set of interrelated examinations. Before work begins, the specific questions requiring each component are identified.
